Inside Chase Design’s Creative Process

Posted on: September 23rd, 2025 by Chase Design No Comments

At Chase Design, great design doesn’t happen by chance—it’s built on a process. Over the years, we’ve refined how we approach each project so every design decision has a purpose with a proven creative process that balances strategy, artistry, and efficiency.

From digging into the “why” behind a client’s goals to translating ideas into visuals that work across devices, our method keeps projects on track, on message, and on brand. In this article, we’re giving you a peek behind the curtain at how we make it happen.

Discovery Phase – Understanding the “Why”

Every successful project starts with clarity. Before we even sketch ideas, we dig into the “why” behind a project—the business goals, the problem to solve, the audience to reach, the story to tell, and the action we want users to take. Whether it’s a full website overhaul, a marketing campaign, or a simple landing page, understanding the purpose clarifies the overall visuals and hierarchy of the design.

Whole Picture in Mind

One lesson from art school still shapes our approach: never get lost in the details before you see the whole. Just as starting a portrait with only the eyes can throw off proportions, focusing too narrowly on one part of the design can disrupt the overall balance.

Before diving straight into pixel-perfect mockups, we start with quick sketches, wireframes, or mood boards to validate ideas early, shaping the concept while looking at the design as a whole. This approach lets us identify potential issues early, keep proportions and hierarchy balanced, and avoid burning time on details that might later need to change. By maintaining a “big picture” perspective during concepting, we ensure every element feels cohesive, harmonious, purposeful, and aligned with the project’s goals from the start.

Visualization Is Our Specialty

Design is as much about business and time management as it is about artistry. Our job as designers is to visualize accurately and deliver efficiently. Because we invest heavily in the discovery phase, we’re often able to get concepts approved on the first round—or at least with minimal revisions.

At Chase Design, we combine decades of experience with a clear understanding of the goals, our team has built a reputation for “getting it” right away.

Project: Emergence of Health Diagram

“These items are modalities that allow for the core of the wheel to take place. They are tools that individually OR along with the inner ring items help bring us back to life. The goal is to move them “out of the box”.

Project: 7-Step Coral Mountain Infographic

“We are picturing more of a isometric art style. We need to illustrate how the onsite filtration and disinfection plant took non-potable water and processed it to be used in the Wave Basin.”

The Meaning Behind Every Design Element

Every element of a design should have a reason for being there. That could be a simple shape or angle from the logo carried into a campaign, a subtle pattern that enhances contrast, a highlight color intentionally drawing eyes to a call-to-action, or a clever icon perfectly illustrating the content.

We don’t add elements just because they simply look cool; we add them because they support the overall visuals. And if an element doesn’t serve a purpose, we strip it out. This clarity makes our designs feel intentional, cohesive, and uncluttered.

Design Hierarchy

A great design isn’t just about how it looks — it’s about how it communicates. Our team prioritizes the eye flow of every page and screen, guiding viewers toward the desired action, whether it’s clicking a button, submitting a form, or scanning a QR code. As communication artists, we understand that hierarchy and layout can make or break a user experience. By mastering visual hierarchy, we strategically position text, images, color, spacing, and elements to draw attention exactly where it’s needed.

Conclusion

Our process is built to deliver more than attractive visuals. It’s designed to uncover your “why,” translate it into a clear concept, and execute it with purpose — all while saving time and staying true to your brand.
